my old high school's One-Act competition seemed a good opportunity. so I went to auditions, and every subsequent practice. plus, every competition(sub-district, district)
so, on Thursday, it was down to Eau Claire for Sectionals.
I had a feeling the day might not go smoothly after I arrived in the morning to help load the bus and the kid who runs the spotlight has called in sick. so the directors(a couple of old teachers of mine - one is in charge of all things drama related, and therefore someone I was very much aquianted with) asked ME to run it.
long story short, things got worse from there.
we found out the university didn't have a working spotlight. BUT, we managed to work that out.
the kids were really nervous, but the directors and myself assured them that they had a fantastic show, and they would do great.
..I call them "kids", but really, they are from the ages of freshman(about 15) to senior(18)...
anyway, so the kids had a GREAT performance. I was sure they had more than proved worthy to go to State, the next(and last) level in the competition.
they were not so sure...one of them, Sidney, has been a friend of mine for a few years now..she was really putting herself down, because she was sure she had messed up...
so, one of the judges walks in, and congratulates the kids on making her laugh, several times.
and then proceeds to critize our selection of set. it was too bright and shiny, too crowded.
she had NOTHING to say about their acting.
and after she left, a university student looked at the judges critique sheets, looked at the kids and said
"I'm sorry, but you're being stopped here. you will not be going to State."
we all kind of looked at her in shock. she left.
and one by one, the kids broke down in tears(except for the guys. I don't know how they do that.).
seeing them all so broken, and knowing how hard they worked to get there, I cried too.
I had been with them the whole way, I had seen how they kept improving, becoming closer to one another.
become a cast. an ensemble.
it's too bad, because I think the WHFSA is really missing out on a great show performed by some really exceptional kids.
on a happier note, this Sunday ROCKED.
an Ed, Edd and Eddy Marathon - a show I grew up on. and missed.
and in the evening, the official US Premiere of the Ed, Edd and Eddy Big Picture Show. the FINAL "episode" of Ed, Edd, and Eddy.
it was a perfect end to a great series.
and then, later in the evening a NEW episode of the Venture Bros.
OH 21 <3
(and creepy 24 skull moving at the end WTF)
followed by the season 3 premiere of Metalocalypse.
I didn't used to be a fan, but over time, grew to..sorta..like it. LOL I LOVE CHARLES. so when I saw him beaten to a pulp at the end of season 2, I NEEDED TO KNOW HIS FATE.
>
so yes, Sunday was AWESOME!
I LOVE MY SHOWS

I tell myself my actions are justified, but isn't that what everyone tells themselves? Does anyone wake up thinking "today I'm going to cross the line"?
